These terms apply to your use of the WordShift mobile app (“the app”), developed by Jonathan Pearl Everett.
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and play WordShift on devices you own, for your own entertainment. You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer, resell, or redistribute the app except where applicable law expressly permits.
WordShift stores progress locally on your device and, while online, syncs a backup of your game save to our backend (restorable on another device via Backup & Restore). We are not responsible for loss of progress caused by deleting the app, device failure, operating system actions, or use of the in-app “Reset All Progress” option.
In-game currency (“amber”) and hints have no real-world cash value. Amber packs, hint packs, and other optional items are offered as in-app purchases, but they cannot be sold, transferred, redeemed for money, or exchanged outside the app. Game balance, rewards, and prices may be adjusted in updates.
All purchases are processed by the app store you bought them through (Google Play, or Apple’s App Store on iOS); the app itself cannot issue refunds, and refunds are handled under that store’s policies. Consumable items (amber and hint packs) are granted after the store confirms a successful purchase and the game saves the reward. A pending payment does not grant items yet. If a confirmed reward cannot be saved, the app offers a retry without another charge; contact support if the reward remains missing.
Eligible one-time entitlements, such as Remove Ads, Patron’s Key and the cosmetic bundle, can be restored through Settings → Restore Purchases using the relevant store account. Restoring the starter bundle’s ownership does not grant its amber and hints again. Restore Purchases does not recreate spent consumables; use Backup & Restore for game progress and saved balances. The optional “Supporter” subscription is an auto-renewing monthly purchase billed by your app store; it renews until you cancel it in that store’s subscription settings, and an active subscription can likewise be restored through Restore Purchases. Reset All Progress does not cancel a subscription or refund a purchase.
The app shows advertising (occasional interstitial ads, a banner on some menu screens, and reward ads you choose to watch). An optional one-time purchase, or an active Supporter subscription, removes the automatically shown ads.
The game’s narrative includes dark-fantasy and horror themes and is recommended for ages 13 and up. Word puzzles are generated from a curated English dictionary; if you encounter a word you believe should not appear, contact us and we will review it.
We may update the app to fix bugs, rebalance gameplay, or change features. Updates may alter or remove content. Continued use of the app after an update constitutes acceptance of the updated app.
The app is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data or progress, arising from your use of the app. Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amounts you have paid for in-app purchases in the app (the app itself is free to download).
Our handling of information is described in the Privacy Policy. In short: gameplay data is stored on your device, and limited data is sent off-device only for the online features described there, such as analytics, crash reporting, cloud backup, purchases, ads, and the daily leaderboard.
You may stop using the app at any time by deleting it. These terms terminate automatically upon deletion.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising from these terms or your use of the app that cannot be resolved informally will be brought in the state or federal courts located in New York County, New York, except where the consumer-protection law of the country in which you live gives you the right to bring a claim in your local courts or grants you protections that cannot be waived, in which case those rights and protections apply.
If we change these terms, we will update the effective date above and describe the change in the app’s release notes.
